The second I picked up Mattemio, I knew I was going to love it. And I was right, once you start reading it, you're into it.

You may not know this, but Redwall, Mossflower, and Mattemio all go together in a trilogy!!
So to fully understand Mattemio, read Redwall, to understand Redwall, read Mossflower. The same characters are in it, such as Log-a-Log, he's in all 3 of them, but dies in Mattemio, I'm not gonna tell you how though.

Like all Redwall books, I strongly reccomend this book. Although it's the longest book there is in the series(at least that I've seen), it's 446 pages of great story!!

Written by Brian Jacques, Mattimeo is an exciting and thrilling tale. First published in 1990, Mattimeo is the third volume in the New York Times best-selling series Redwall.

The story takes place in the mysterious land of Mossflower, a thriving forest where talking animals and creatures live. A large stone Abbey stands in the middle of Mossflower, a safe haven for travelers and a home for the local woodlanders. It is called Redwall. The account begins during the great summer feast held by Abbot Mordolfus when the creatures of the Abbey gather for fellowship and eating. Some traveling performers appear at their door and request to stay the night. Little do the woodlanders know that the "performers" are actually vicious slavers led by their fox leader Slagar the Cruel. Still holding onto a grudge from a past war, Slagar manages to steal many of the young children right from under their noses and flees south. One of the captured is Mattimeo, son of the famous warrior of Redwall, Mathias. Mattimeo and his friends soon learn that Slagar plans to sell them into slavery and their parents, who are trained fighters, are soon hot on their trail to rescue them. While they are gone, the Redwallers are forced to defend themselves against attacking mountain crows in clever and cunning ways. The story concludes in the depths of the old kingdom of Loamhedge where a battle breaks out with Mathias, Jess, Basil, Orlando and their allies against the massive army of Malkariss in order to rescue their children and the many other prisoners held captive.

Throughout the tale, friends are made, reunited, and parted in the twisting and progressing plot that grabs a hold of you and encourages you to keep reading. The book is an excellent read, although some of the violence and intensity may be a bit too much for younger readers. Overall, I think that Brian Jacques did a wonderful job creating such a fantastic epic!

Creatures of Redwall are all preparing for the feast during the summer equinox when Mattimeo and other children are stolen. They were captured by Slagar the Cruel and his gang to be sold as slaves. Mattimeo was a spoiled child and never faced with a challenge such as escaping from slavery. Mattimeo's father Mathias must do his best with the help of others from Redwall to rescue the children. The childrens escaping is decided by a battle fought between Mathias and others from Redwall, and Slagar's band of slaves.
Some of the things that I liked about this book included it never failing to be interesting. I was constantly hooked on reading this book and often had a hard time putting it down. "We will bury you with the pieces of your own kingdom!" (Jacques, 396) This was just one of the many things yelled by the people of Redwall when battling Slagar to rescue the children.
I give this book a positive review because the author truly went above and beyond with it. Even in the most boring part of the book, the author makes you feel as if you are right there with the characters. Also, when a character is in trouble, you can tell just how much everyone in their community cares about them because everyone rushes to help them. The only negative thing about this book is that it is kind of a long book to read, but it is such a great book that the length doesn't really matter. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend.

I really liked this book! I like this book because it is one of those books with adventures in it. I have 7 of these books and this is my favorite one! Its about a warrior's son who is taken by a fox named Slagar the Cruel. But the warrior whose name is Matthias takes a group of Redwall creatures and tries to find his child and the other Redwall children. As he teams up with old and new characters he goes on a dangerous journey through rivers, cliffs, and stange forests. Meanwhile the Redwall Abbey is being attacked by savage ravens! I won't tell the ending, so you'll have to get the book yourself! Its a great book!

I fell in love with this book the moment I picked it up. The sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed books today! From the tale of who the masked fox is to where loamhedge is, this book is tops!! I encourage all fans of the series to buy this one! The tale of a young one born with responsibility to be a great warrior one day who must prove that he is right and is worthy of becoming a warrior. The way they dicribe Matthias(Mattimeo's father and Redwall protector) is great. The cute baby Rollo and how he's so so important to the story, and Cheek the funny otter. This one is the best book I have ever read!

This is a good book for those that have read the series before (Expecially Redwall). It brings back our favorite characters, including Basil Stag Hare, Jess Squirrel, Matthias, Cornflower, Tim and Tess, plus many more.

It has a good plot, plus many emotions including sadness, romance, courage and a huge fighting spirit.

Mattimeo is kidnapped by Slagar and his gang along with many other young ones. He is forced to travel to an evil kingdom where he will become a tortured slave forever. But, Mattimeo's father and many other parents are hot on Slagar's trail ready to fight him and any other obstacles that they may encounter.

I really liked this book because of the suspense and creepy parts of the book. The characters in this story were believable even though they are talking animals. There were gory parts though but if you are 11 or older it is pretty cool.

Mattimeo is definetly the best Redwall book, and forever will be. Others will try, but none can compare. It is filled with danger and suspense, humor and wit, and best of all, a whole lotta' fun! Mattimeo is one of the best Redwall heroes there will ever be. The one and only thing I did not like very much about this book, is when they get to Loamhedge. The battle is AWESOME, but the ghost-like mental picture you will get is not very impressive. ANYWAY... it is a great book to read, after you have read Redwall i would say. But...Redwall is a different review...

Hiyo, Redwall Lovers! "Mattimeo" is my personal favourite. In it, Matthias' son Mattimeo and other youngsters are kidnapped by Slagar and taken to Malkariss' kingdom. Matthias and friends head out to find them. Basil Stag Hare, Jess Squirrel, and others return from "Redwall" as well as some new characters, such as Auma and Sir Harry the Muse. Once again, there are truckloads of characters, more battles, and General Ironbeak, the first bird villain. There are feasts and more than enough adventure. This is the best of the ones that I've read.

I think Mattimeo was of my favorite books(I have TONS of favorite books, I'm a real bookworm!). Well, Mattimeo for one thing makes me hungry, all of Brian Jaques's books do! Mattimeo is a adventurous book with realistick words. I'm no critic but I think Brian Jaques made a masterpiece full of adventure, everything about Redwall is a mystery! You can't put the book down, it is like what, three hundred pages, and I finished it in two days! Whoa, that is a gooood book! I'm sure a lot of Redwaller's fans would enjoy this thrilling book. (I know, I tried it!

I think that this is a very good book because it ties in with Redwall. It ties into Redwall when it talks about what happens to Chickenhound from where his adventures leave off in Redwall. The epilouge tells a lot and is quite surprising. It will lead you to Pearls of Lutra, the next in the series. Some people think that it is boring and drags on but a lot happens. It has a weird introduction but you understand it later. At first I didn't understand the map but now it makes sense. I think this is a good book and you should read it!!

When I finished Mossflower and went on to Mattimeo I did not know what I was coming into. I had read about the plot, but now that I have finished it, I know what it is to me, Mattimeo is the best Redwall book yet. The plot is great, the description, the battles, Brian Jacques opens up the world of Redwall clearer then he has yet done.

The plot is about Matthias' sun: Mattimeo. Who is a young rascal and is constantly getting into meschief. But when the terrible slave driver Slager comes to seek vengence on Redwall for what he thinks they did to him, he comes and steals away Mattimeo and some other Redwall children and puts them on his slave line. Matthias, with the help of his squirel friend Jess, and a hare named Basil he sets off to bring back Redwall's young ones. Menwhile back at Redwall bad birds from the north come and put Redwall under siege.

This Redwall advenure is full of action, peril, and humor. Brian Jacques has captured Redwall better than ever before.

Brian Jacques' novel, Mattimeo, is a delightful tale of animals, friendship, and courage. The characters, dwell in an abbey called Redwall. From this abbey, the most intriguing adventures have sprouted. The novel begins with an excerpt from the diary of the abbey historian. This excerpt describes the surroundings, the general mood of the characters, and a few future events. The very next chapter introduces the super-villain. It seemed a bit out of place because stories, especially fantasy ones, usually introduce the hero character first. This book started off with a sort of prologue and went straight to introducing the villain. This is one of the unique qualities of this author's work. Brian Jacques' unorthodox style of writing may confuse some readers. This author tends to disregard the unwritten rules of fantasy novels. For instance, unlike most fantasy writers, Brain Jacque creates multiple stories. The first story consists of warriors in pursuit of a criminal who has just kidnapped their children. As this story unfolds, he takes the children of other groups which in turn send out their warriors. Contrary to what would normally happen, these warriors do not band together. This is because they are not introduced to each other. This forces the author to keep up the adventures of each band of warriors until they unite at their common goal: Slagar the Cruel. The author accomplishes this task ever so colorfully. Just because he has multiple adventures does no hamper his creativity nor does it place a limit to his descriptions and details. Hidden between all these adventures, a peculiar event occurs. About every third or fourth chapter, the author accounts for the actions of the citizens still in Redwall Abbey. It seems irrelevant in that nothing if happening there. It makes the reader ask why the author is bothering to keep up with their story? It turns out that he already had a second story going on! Left defenseless, as all the warriors chase the kidnappers, a band of rogue ravens under the command of General Ironbeak lay siege upon the abbey. Using animals in place of people is quite ingenious. The author uses our common knowledge and generalizations of certain animals to tell a wonderful story as well as portray valuable morals. For instance, the master-villain of the story is Slagar the Cruel. He is a fox. Foxes are certainly not evil but are considered cunning and sly in most cultures. Weasels, rats and stoats are also portrayed in the same light which is why they make up Slagar's army and not sisters and fathers at the abbey. On the other side of the spectrum, rabbits, mice, hedgehogs and other "known" gentle creatures are placed in the abbey. They are given the role as the sister or the father. A character known as Orlando the Great is represented as a badger to give him the fierce warrior feeling. This tale also teachers virtues such as patience, persistence and faith. The characters always seem to survive a tough ordeal because they stick together with their friends. The villains are killed or left behind by each other because of their greed and selfishness. It even shows that one must take responsibilities for your own actions. If one behaves badly, he or she will be met with punishment and consequences. This book is a wonderful to read. Violence and death are present in this book, however, I believe that it is still suitable for young children. Parents may even consider this as a long-term bedtime story to expose the children to a wide variety of genres as well as to teach them the common morals and values. Adults and teens may also enjoy this book because it provides a good adventurous environment. This book may teach a little something to everyone. If it doesn't, it's still a good fantasy book to read. I give this book 10 thumbs up.

This book is extremely good for those who love to see the good guy come out on top. The story is of Redwall Abbey and it's young dibbuns. Several are kidnapped to be sold as slaves. The Abbey warrior's child is among the kidnapped. The Abbey warrior and takes off to kill the kidnapper and his gang and gets into an epic struggle with his friends. He meets several along the way including a great badger. The final battle is one of epic proportions with a group the Abbey had no idea existed, in a land they didn't know existed.

When Slagar and his band of weasels and rats, comes to Redwall to steal all of the young uns, including Mattimeo, son of Matthias the guardian of Redwall, its off to the races because Slagar wants to sell the young uns as slaves to the evil Malkariss, ruler of the underworld. But Matthias is not about to let that happen. He meets up with Orlando the Axe, the Gousims, and some hedghogs. They combine forces and race. But as the warriors are gone from Redwall. General Ironbeak, a crow, is attacking Redwall and trying to take over. Read this book to find out.

I like this book because it has lots of adventure. It starts out with a beautiful day with an extravagant feast following. During the feast Slagar the cruel and his band of rats, weasels, and ferrets dress up as entertainers and get into Redwall Abbey. Then they kidnap the redwallers kids and fled to The Mighty Malckarris. Mathis and a group of fierce redwall creatures go on a difficult and exciting expedition to find all the redwalls children. I recommend this book for people that love adventure and action.

This book has two main Villians instead of one. The evil fox Slagar on a quest for revenge kindnapes Mattimeo the son of Mathisis. Mathisis, along with Basil Stag, Jess , Check and Orland the ax. Must stop the evil threat.
It a double wham because there is another villian in it. The evil raven Iron Beak arrives at redwall and has plans to conjure it. Filled with graphic battles just like it processor.
Will mathisis rescue or will he be doned to slave away in Malrkirs to the day he die. Will reed wall fall to Ironbeak red the book to find out the answers.

Mattimeo takes place in Mossflower woods, the time is unknown. Redwall Abbey is located in the middle of Mossflower woods, built by peaceful woodlanders to find sanctuary from the harsh world outside. The peaceful woodlanders inside are mostly mice, but there is also an assortment of squirrels, otters, hares, moles, voles, hedgehogs, sparrows and a single badger. That all changes one day when Slagar the cruel and his vicious band of vermin come to Redwall. They have a plan to kidnap Mouse warrior Matthias' son, Mattimeo. The motive behind this is revealed in the Redwall. Mattimeo is the sequel to Redwall, so to fully understand it, you should read it first, though it is still enjoyable to read even if you didn't read the first. So Slagar and company sneak into Redwall pretending to be a traveling circus group. Slagar places sleeping drugs in everyone's drink, so soon everyone is asleep. They sneak off before anyone awakes. The next day at Redwall, everyone wakes up, not remembering much. They realize the kids are gone and send out a search party. The search party finds nothing and turns back to Redwall. Matthias, Jess Squirrel, and Basil Stag Hare find tracks and immediately set off to save the little ones. Slagar then revels that he plans to take the hostages and sell them as slave to a warlord with an underground kingdom. This book changes points of view from chapter to chapter. First are Matthias, then Mattimeo, then Slagar, and finally the woodlanders back at Redwall. Slagar treats the others brutality, but Mattimeo gets enraged and charges at him. He then swears a warrior's oath to slay Slagar. Then Slagar manages to trap Matthias and companions in a cave, and push a pile of rocks off a cliff, burying them. Right as they are about to run out of air, Shrews help them escape. Then they have to cross a river, where an entire army of archers stands on the other side, ready to shoot them down. The people back at Redwall send out the Sparrows to aid Matthias. When Matthias tries to cross the river, he and his army are torn to pieces. They are about to die when the sparrows show up and kill the river rat archers. Then Matthias and his army have one last great battle to fight. They must attack the underground kingdom where Mattimeo is being held. Will his tiny force be able to overtake the mighty underground kingdom? Read the book and find out! The main conflict is Matthias trying to rescue his son and the solution is he succeeds and brings Mattimeo, and many other former slaves, back to Redwall. I highly recommend this and all the other Redwall books. There is a main plotline, but there are also many different stories branching off of the main plotline. I love the different points of view, and the classic medieval warfare. This will appeal to any fantasy fan, and anyone who loves a great book.

Mattimeo was very enjoyable to read.It has a well thought out story line.By the end of the book youll feel like you know the characters and youll really feel for them.In Mattimeo some of the most beloved characters are brought back into the story such as:Constance,Bs. haire,and Matthias warrior of redwall etc.The master storyteller Brian Jaques weaves a colorful web that brings the buety and magic of Mossflower.You will truly enjoy Mattimeo. sincerely, Kathleen J.Mcguire.

I'm a fan of all Redwall books. I like all of them, and this was no exception. It had great imagery, a twisting plot, unforgettable characters, villianous enemies, and enigmatic riddles. There are few things in this book that I think should be changed. I thought that the ending was rather abrupt, and more of the story was left untold.
I recommend this book to ages 8-14, though some of the younger readers may need some help. (This review is based on both the book and the tape)

I really liked this book because it portrayed a small wimpy mouse who turned himself into a fearless warrior making himself a icon of Redwall Abby to the little kid when months before he was just a little kid himself. I really liked it because the plot was great and the author was able to put some connection between Mattimeo and Martin again together...making it seem like it was sacred and i really liked that. I think you should read this book...if you like fantasies that is!

This book is really good for anyone that loves fantasy. Slagar the Cruel takes some of the Redwallers hostage to use them as slaves, but Matthias comes to the rescue. Matthias and his friends have to use logic and thinking to find the hostages. But they face trouble along the way. They meet more characters that help and hurt them. So i would reccomend this series to anyone that has a slight interest in fantasy, because it is truly a figment of Brian Jacque's imagination.

I suppose Redwall and Mattimeo could simply be one massive book other than the fact that there is one year's difference between the stories within them. After reading Redwall, I decided to read its sequel Mattimeo, which turned out to be even better. As if that's possible. There can't be a word Brian Jacques doesn't know, he richly uses the English language (not abuses it, like Eminem). There's nothing left to say other than you ought to read Redwall first.

this is another good edition in the redwall series. well its been 8 seasons since the great war and every body is waiting for the big feast but mattamio, mathias head strong son causes trouble as punishemnt he is forced into work. then Slagar the creul kidnaps bim and evry other young one. now mathias and others must go out and save them but trouble happens when there gone. general ironbeak, a ruthless leader has layed siege onto redwall. can mathias rescue his son and can the others fend of the general. read this goood read

The third book of this series is very intresting to the other books in its series, which i would like to read more of. Mattimeo is a young mouse getting into trouble all the time with his friends, Tim and Tess Church MouseThe father and the other Redwallers searched for him, Mattimeo is forced to take care of the other Redwallers captured by Slagar and his band of rats and weasels. The book is about Mattimeo and a plot un foldes Abbey.

Another colorful, tense, unforgettable adventure written by the talented yet deceased author, Brain Jacques. Truly, Brian. Without you, the world has lost a brilliant mind for writing. At least know this, I loved your series when you were alive and I still love it and I'll always love REDWALL in the future days to come! :D

Here is another work of art done by one of the most amazing artist. Mattimeo , for those of you who don't know is the son of the hero from the first book Mathias. When the redwall abbey is having their feast a slave driver gang shows up in disguise. Not knowing this the knid redwallers let them in. When no one is looking the slave drivers slip some sleeping potion into everyones drink. Once everyone is asleep they steal all of the children including Mattimeo. The parents wake up to find out the horrible news and yet another quest begins. I don't want to give any more of the story away so I am going to stop there. What will become of the slave and the slave drivers. What will become of redwall. Read this amazing book and find out.

Mattimeo is the third book in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. Like all Redwall books there is more then one adventure going on at one time. They even resemble human personalities. Each chapter leaves you in suspense until the very end. You don't want to stop reading until you have finished the book. There is always a puzzle to be solved and a mystery to unravel. All the Redwall books are good, but this is by far the best I have read.

The Redwall series is the best. My favorite four, which should be read in this order, are Mossflower, Redwall, Mattimeo, and Pearls of Lutra, the newest book. I love Mattimeo, because many of my favorite characters from Redwall return, along with the next generation. Unfortunately, this book is one of the saddest because so many creatures are killed. I cry every time I read it, but I read it anyway because I love it so much!!! ~~Stefani~~

I began reading this series as a 7 year old now in college I still have the same glee I did at 7 when a new redwall book comes out...but I will simply say this of all the redwall books this is the one this is the peak...it is simply not to be missed if you are young or just still act like you are these books will take you somewhere else somewhere I for one would rather be :)
Trust me on this....there are few books that inspire so much and this is one on a very short list.

Mattimeo, in my opinion, has mure more depth than the others in the series. The animal characters are as real as people, which is what makes these books so fasacinating. This story is, again in my opinion, the most dramatic in the series. However, I havent read them all. Some people may consider it overlong, but I think that's a positive thing. It's opressive when good books end too soon. It's more than worth your while to read it, so do!

Mattimeo is a naughty little male mouse who suddenly gets caught by Chickenhound, son of Sela the fox. Chickenhound was terribly injured in the last book, Redwall. He got a knock on his head and became terribly crazy. He thought that the Redwallers were the ones who injured him so he decided to mousenap most of the young mice in Redwall. In the process, Mattimeo became a slave and finally becomes a true warrior

Once again, another great by Brian Jacques. The warriors fight 2 battles at once which make this book a little confusing at times. Action packed and dramatic throughout. It has a wonderful ending.......as expected.

I really like this book because I like fantasy and it is cool to have animals like mice be the main characters. This defininately fits the definition of great fantasy. I also like it because it is so good that you never want it to end and it is so long that it takes a long time to read it because it is like 436 pages or something. I still read pretty quickly because it was so good. The only bad thing is that rats are bad in Redwall and I have a pet rat and it is a lot nicer than described in the book but it is fantasy. If you like fantasy and animals, this will probably be your 3rd or 4th favorite book you've ever read. On a scale of one to ten,ten being the best, I would give it a nine and one third.I would probably say that it is the best book I've ever read(I say probably because the other Redwall books are great too). If you like Redwall, you will probably like Harry Potter too.

In my point of view this is by far the best book of the series, it combines humor, action, suspence, and even a little bit of sorrow. I think that this book explains the most about Redwall. Mossflower was a good intro though, it didn't quite explain everything. Everything that wasn't clearly stated in Moss flower was explained in this one. Overall, another great book from Brian Jacques.

Mattimeo is just as good as Redwall, if not better. You become pulled inside the story, and get to know the characters on a personal level. From Sam Squirrel to Orlando the Axe, the character cast includes most of the original Redwall characters, plus some new ones who fit right in with the Redwall crowd. As the final book in the Redwall trilogy, Mattimeo is an exciting and touching book.

A cunning fox, named Slagar the Cruel, and his evil henchmen sneak into Redwall Abbey to kidnap the Woodland children, including Mattimeo son of the great warrior mouse Matthias. Matthias and a bunch of brave followers set out to find and rescue the young children that were stolen into slavery. Like they didnt have enough troubles already, a Raven, named General Ironbeak, comes to Redwall Abbey and tries to take over. The troubles ahead i cant tell you must read the book to find out. I Recommend this book to anyone that has read Redwall. you should read Redwall first or the book will not make much sense. i give this book 10 stars Brain Jacques is an excelent writer

A wonderful mix of adventure, fun, cleverness, and home come together to create this amazingly well-written story. I enjoyed the style of the book, how Jacques alternated the groups of creatures that he wrote about. This was a thrilling mystery that kept me guessing until the last page. I recomend this story to kids who enjoy reading about animals and who love adventurous stories

This book is awsome. I liked it so much I wrote a play on it! If you liked Harry Potter you will absollutly love this! It is about creatures in a big abbey. The Abbeys warriors kid was kidnaped by a fox named Slagar the Cruel. Slagar is a masked fox that falsly hol Redwall responible for the adder bite on his jaw. I extremly recomend it. Once again awsome book!

If you thought that mice could never be warriors or squirrels heroes, this book will prove you wrong. A sequel to the equally great "Redwall," "Mattimeo" chronicles the coming of age of a hero's son--from spoiled brat to tempered warrior. Containing one of the best villains ever, this book is engaging from start to finish and takes the reader out of the haven of the abbey to places of dark adventure. A great book.

I am 8 years old and loved this book. Mattimeo was the most exciting book I have ever read. It was about kids and I'm a kid so I could relate to what they were thinking really good. This book is about a young mouse named Mattimeo, his friends and their troubles. Their parents have to save them. All I can say is that this book is the best book ever!

Brian Jacques is one of those writers who came out with a break through that hadnt really been done since C.S.Lewis wrote the Chronichals af Narnia. I think this was Brian JAcques last great book until he wrote Marlfox, i say this because i believe books 4-10 sort of had the same plot repeated over and over again. I have the entire Redwall collection in first edition releases and have read each several times.I think Brian Jacques should be very happy with this book and this series.

Read the book! It is amazing. The entire redwall series brings you into a whole new world. I've read three of the books and I think that these are amazing books. Mattimeo was my favorite so far. I hope to read more because they are AWSOME. My friend recommended it to me and since, I've been hooked on redwall. I can't tell you how good it is so you'll hve to read it.

It' s the kind of book where you read it all the way through and get something out of it, or don't read it and miss a great book. So, read it!

One of twelve books, this novel will always be one of my favorites. I'd recommend reading "Redwall" and "Mossflower" before "Mattimeo", but it's okay by itself. However, some parts might be hard to understand. So if you like books about questing animals and hard-to-solve riddles, read "Mattimeo".

... .Mattimeo was one of the best books i've ever read albeit I don't read many books it is easy to see Jacques's eccelence and his well-earned place as the greatest fantasy writer of our time. Mattimeo was full of humour, poetry, song, likable characters, execitment, emotion, beautifully painted landscapes, British flavor, and of course food. The humour is well pulled off, the poetry is cool, the emotion is real, the whole book is just pretty righteous. Characters like Basil are what makes literature worth reading. Another thing, I ask you what's cooler than a huge bager with a big battle axe whose out for blood,very little. Also Jaques's vivid descriptions of food are always entertaining. The action in this book makes it an exiceting read.The book all and all was great though not without it's flaws.

Its an Age old story.
Boy mouse meets Girl Mouse. Boy mouse marries Girl Mouse. Boy mouse and Girl mouse reproduce. Boy mouse and Girl mouse have cute kid. Boy mouse ang Girl mouse have cute kid taken away by a Fox whacked out on Vengeance pills.
Except for the marriage (living in mousie sin! ) part its all true and all good reading for the developed reader in you with the child in you that still loves to root for the cute animals.

At a Redwall feast, a group of evil creatures (dressed as actors) show up at the door. They secretly drug all the food with a sleeping potion and steal all the young ones when they're sleeping. Now it's up to the fearless warrior Matthias, and his friends, Jess Squirrel, and Basil Stag Hare to find them. Brian Jacques once again captures the reader's imagination with a variaty of action-packed plots, lifelike charecters, and a can't-put-it-down story. I enjoyed this book a lot, and I'm sure you will too.

This is by far the best book I have read from Brian Jacques. In fact, it is my favorite book after THE GOLDEN COMPASS. The story was very well planed. It had one of the best plots I have read in a long time. This book is probably best for fantasy lovers within the age range of 10-45. I HIGHLY RECOMEND THIS FANTASTIC BOOK!!!

The way just as soon as a really exciting moment appears it goes off to the other situation keeps you reading on eager for more. You'll be compelled by this book like me. Stunning read. People say these books are only for younger children but I'm still entertained by them at age 19. Mattimeo has always been my favorite Redwall book. I recently started re-reading it and all the memories came flooding back. This book has it all. The best Heroes (Mathias, Basil, Orlando), the best villians (Slagar and the slavers, Stonefleck, General Ironbeak), and it is filled with riddles. A masterpiece of an adventure book. Id recommend it to anyone.

After reading some of the other reviews on Mattimeo from the store.com,I got the impression that many people thought this book was either too long or dragged on to much. However,I think it had the right length to be very enjoyable. From the begenning I wondered who Mattimeo would turn out to be and how he got there,probably because he was such a spoiled brat in the begginning. But as usual,Brian Jaques saved the day by transforming a pampered son of a warrior into a warrior. I think that the life of the inhabitants of Redwall Abbey between the books Mattimeo and The Pearls of Lutra would be an awsome sequel to Mattimeo and sort of a biography/story about how the child of Tess and Mattimeo,Martin,grew up.

This book was fascinating, there were turns and twists in every chapter. The book gives you info on whats going on over many places. The animal world amazes me. Brian Jacques leaves you hanging many times. If you read just this one or any other Redwall book you will want to read many more!

This is either the best or the second best Redwall book. It's the direct sequel to the Original Redwall, so there will be a lot of familier characters. Complete with 3 huge battles, a cruel monster that lurks in the dark, and an evil slaver named Slager, this book is ultimate, and I highly reccomend it!

Mattimeo is a great book because it involved people who think and act like us, but are really animals. It has a great story plot and I really liked how the story fit the poems in the book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to curl up with a good book that will keep you reading

Brian Jacques cleverly wrote the story of a young mouse, Mattimeo, and his friends from Redwall Abbey are secretly stolen by the the slaver fox, Slagar the Cruel, who wishes revenge upon the Abbey. Matthias, the champion of Redwall, with a few trustworthy friends bravely set out to rescue their young ones from the band of villains.

Compared to other Redwall books, Mattimeo is drall, boring and not creative. Making it one of the best books in the world. Anything that Mr. Jaques dreams up is OK by me! If you've read every other Redwall books, I guess it's worth checking out, otherwise save it for last.

Right when I read the first page, I knew this book was a winner. Humorous, delightful, and fierce characters make the book all the more fun and interesting. My favorite character was Basil Stag Hare. If you are in the age range from 10 to 70, you'll love it, like I did!

This book has a lot of action and it was fun to read. It is my favorite of the first 4 Redwall books. The battles were so exciting that I couldn't put the book down. I read this 432 page book in less than a week! I would recommend this book to all 11 year old boys!

I LOVE this book! It is definitley the best Redwall book of all time. Also the longest, this book contains the story of the child of Matthias, warrior of Redwall. Mattimeo is to carry on the legend of the warrior after his fathr, but all that Mattimeo wants to do is play around. But when all of the young ones of Redwall are kidnapped (including Mattimeo) by an evil fox name Slagar the Cruel, Matthias sets off in search of his son, and Mattimeobecomes a real man when he has to protect his other friends from Slagar. This book is definitley a MUST-READ for Redwall fans AND non-redwall fans. Buy it! 'Twould be a wise decision!

This book is about a fox who wants revenge a small community known as Redwall Abbey. The mice and other creatures who live in this Abbey are surprised and shocked when they find out that the performer's(it's really the fox and his gang of villains dressed up) have stolen all the children in the Abbey. All the men in the Abbey go in search of their children and you hear what happens to them when they try to find their chldren and the adventures that they have on the way. This book is a book that I couldn't put down untill I finished it. It is one of the best books that I have ever read.

I've read all of the Redwall Series. Brian Jacques is a very talented man when it comes to words and characters, descriptions, songs, and poems. Redwall is my favorite book series and I highly recommend these books for any person; Whether you read it to your child as a bedtime story or for school, during a long weekend, or just for fun on your free time. Kids will love these books, with the different characters and how they act. Each animal in the book has its very own well developed personality, the book comes alive in your imagination!! I love Redwall and I am sure that you will too, if you like to be on the good side of the fantasy world!

Make sure you read this book! It's one of his absolute best and one of my favourites for sure! I Brian is as descriptive as always, employs a wonderful plot, and introduces a few more lovable characters. He's done it again. You must read this!! :)

This is my favorite in the series, despite the fact that it's also the longest. Mattimeo, the son of Matthias, sets out on his own journey just like his father did. However, it ends up the experienced father has to rescue the adventurous son.

And yet again i'm in a state of shock that i went through the whole thing so fast. Could not put the book down. Mattimeo was filled with many different plot twists, and backstabs. Alot of things from this book are making me wonder why the age range is supposivly so low. It seems to be pretty violent sometimes. But of course this is somthing i quite enjoy in the reading. I reccomend any book of the Redwall series to anyone of any age. (maybe not so much the little kids yet).

The evildoers in Matimeo are the best out of all his books Finally there is a Brian Jacques novel that keeps going rather than stopping at about 356 pages. You get very attached to the characters. It is the best novel I have ever read.

To make a long story short, this book was great. What is was going to say, everyone else has already said, so i wont bother reapeting myself. If you analzye this book, you will discover striking similarities to what happend in the 2nd gulf war! But it want to know what happens to mathhatias, mattemeo, elmtail(a former slave jess squirrell adopts) other characters. brian jacques should write a book that takes place in between this and pearls of lutra.

If I had to pick a favorite Redwall book, it would definitely be Mattimeo because it was funny as well as intense. It was so funny, I had a hard time reading sometimes! It also had beautiful descriptions and poems and great riddles. Redwall fans, this is the book for you!

Mattimeo is about how slagar steals the younger ones and puts them in a slae line. and the n matthias basil stag hare and jess squirrel go out to find them. There is also an evil ironbeak who is later killed by bryk redkite. And there is malakriss who takes over the kindom and builds one of the one.

Mattimeo gives Redwall fans something that is sometimes missing in the later Redwall novels: maturity. A sense of adult storytelling not only appealing to the older Redwall fanatics, but fascinating to it's younger readers. And more than that, it's fun, a swashbuckling tale that never gets old. Not to mention that it completes the story of Matthias and what happened after the battle with Cluny and his horde. A fine book.

What a fabulous read! Actually, all the Redwall books had me gasping for more. Once you start, it's impossible to stop reading them, and they just get better and better. Mattimeo in itself was one of the best in the series. It had all the right ingredients which make the Redwall books so enjoyable; good company, good food, comradeship, love, honour and high excitement.
The Redwall series is unmissable, for all age groups. I'm 24 and I'm addicted!

This is just simply the best book ever.I love the way Brian Jacques weaves a great picture of Redwall for us.Now, this book is about the evil Slagar avenging himself on Redwall by kidnapping Matthias's son Mattimeo.It's really exciting, you know. It's just the sort of book you'd be looking for when you like adventure,action and extremely exciting passages.Once you pick this book up, I don't think you'll ever want to put it down.

I thought this book was spectacular and the best after reading the first three Redwall books. After I started reading this book I felt like I couldn't put it down. It also completes the first book (redwall). It brings back all the good characters such as, Mathias and Constance. I liked the battles also. They were filled with action and it made me wonder what was going to happen. This is a truly good book that I think people will love to read.

When I bought this book at my local Pamida I thought it'd take me a long time to read ( it is the longest Redwall book ). The book only took up about a month of my time though. That's probbaly because the story line progresses smoothly and there are so many things in this book you'll want to read as much of it at a time as you can. I'd buy this book if you're a fan of the Redwall series or if you like fantasy stories.

All that I can say is "wow" After I read Redwall, which is the first part of the redwall adventures, I was ready and prepared for Mattimeo. Brian Jacques has such an ability to create worlds, great caracters, and emotion that will leave you wanting more. He has the abilty to make such evil, and bloodthirsty vilans. If you are tired of boring fantasy's, give this a whirl. Trust me, you will not be dissapointed.

This was a great book. It shows Mattimeo goes from a troublemaker to a warrior. Slagar the Cruel manages to capture the young ones of redwall. So the kid have their own adventure, while other Redwallers search for them on their own unique quest. Also, follow how General Ironbeak tries to kill the sparrows and take over Redwall. GREAT BOOK!

Martin the Warrior is the tale of a young warrior mouse. He goes through many adventures fun, and sad. Brian Jacques does and excellent job of description from golden truffles to savage horde beasts. This was the first book I read of the Redwall series, but I really liked it and I would suggest it to any one who likes action, or just a good book.

The book Mattimeo was an excellent mystery and adventure. If you have read any of his other books you can almost guess what is going to happen but then Brian Jacques throws in a new and exciting page turner. In this book (if you have read Redwall) you would have never guessed that Slager is...(I'll save the suprise) or why he wears the silk mask.

Brian Jacques is the most incredible author i have ever seen, and Mattimeo inspires me even more. Don't read this book as a book report. Read it for fun. That will make it awesome. I love how they name all these unique foods and it makes you hungry. I am definetly going to keep reading Brian Jacques Redwall series. I hope you do too!

After Slagar drugs the redwallers and steals their children (albeit to get his revenge on Matthias), Matthias and some of the other parent animals go on a mission to get their kids back, and face a lot of unique perils along the way, and unravel the mystery behind a lost abbey and a frightening Emperor. Next to Redwall itself, this is my favourite book!

I LOVE THIS BOOK, IN FACT, ITS ONE OF THE BEST BUT THE ANSWER STILL ILLUDES ME!!What halppens to mattimeo? most of his childhood and his entire adult life is never written. the same for his son and father! what happens? are they killed in glorious battles or do they die of natural causes? what happens to them? i have to know?!

This is without doubt one of the top three books in the series! The characters have great personalities, the plot is ingenious, the battles are lifelike and vivid, and, of course, there's plenty of food involved! Mr. Jacques, you surpassed yourself on this masterpiece - congratulations!

Matthias the warrior mouse's son, Mattimeo gets captured by Slagar the Cruel. Basil Stag Hare, Matthias, and Jess Squirrel goes on a search for him, and Tim and Tess Churchmouse. My favorite part of the book was when Matthias falls of the cliff and finds Mattimeo and the others.

I quite enjoyed Mattimeo, but I found one minor flaw: As with other Brian Jacques novels, the plots are usually the same. Beasts get sick, or have visions, or are captured, or Redwall is under siege. But I still rather liked the book, and I would read it again.

I think that Mattimeo is the best out of the Redwall series. But to understand it, you'd have to read Redwall first. I liked the action and adventure that Mattimeo has. It's funny, suspenseful, and it is my favorite book. This book is a must read.

This is an awesome book, Slagar may not be the hardest bad guy of all the Redwall's enemies.. but is certainly the most sly and cunning. I like basically everyone. From the beggining to the end its a great book.

This is possibly the worst Redwall book I have ever read. The story was incredibly long and boring and plot wasn't all that great. The other books are much better, though, even though I haven't read it yet, the newest book, Marlfox, isn't supposed to be all that hot either. Try again next time, Jacques.

I am 24 years old. My wife told me about Redwall because the students in her 5th grade class love it. We wanted to see what all the fuss was about so I read Redwall. Then Mossflower. Yesterday, I finished Mattimeo and it was the best yet. It was very exciting with lots of brave characters, evil villians and new ideas. I loved it. I have Mariel of Redwall waiting for me on the shelf, but first I have to visit an old fava bean eating friend.
